Bay Area Driver Gets 3 Years in Prison for Injury DUI Crash

Driving under the influence is taken very seriously by California police and prosecutors. This aggressive stand against drunk driving was on display earlier this month when a 61-year-old man received 3 years in prison for a DUI injury crash. 61-year-old, John Donohoe, admitted to having consumed 5 beers before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle on Dec 3, 2013. He turned onto the wrong side of Westborough Boulevard and collided head-on with a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist and his passenger were both injured and Donohoe was arrested.

Donohoe’s BAC results were 0.14% - nearly 2x the legal limit and he was charged with felony drunk driving causing an injury with an added enhancement for great body injury. He entered a plea of no contest on Sept 11 and was subsequently sentenced on January 21st to 3 years in California State Prison.

California prosecutors are aggressive when it comes to drunk driving. As such, if you are arrested for DUI in Oakland, or anywhere in the Bay Area, you need a DUI defense attorney on your side from the start. Your attorney will need to begin building an aggressive defense against these serious charges - especially if your accident involved injury. After all, your freedom depends on it.
