Video of Police Brutally Beating California DUI Suspect
A video has emerged that shows California police officers brutally beating a DUI suspect in Chico, California. Police stopped Sean Reardon in February 2015 on suspicion of drunk driving. Yet, what happened next was disturbing. When Reardon got out of his Chevy Suburban near 5 th and Main Streets in Chico, he was tackled to the ground and beaten severely by the two officers. As a result, of the beating, he suffered broken ribs, nose, and sternum and was in the ICU for 4 days.
The officers in question claimed that Reardon was not just arrested for DUI but also for failing to appear at court on gun charges. They also claimed that he refused to raise his hands and then attempted to flee when they stopped him. The Butte County Chief deputy District Attorney said that Reardon's blood alcohol content was almost twice over the legal limit and had traces of methamphetamines and cocaine in his blood. He allegedly tried to flee the officers and hit two cars while trying to get away.
DUI is a very serious offense in California, as is evading a peace officer and resisting arrest. In many cases of DUI, drunken individuals behave erratically, prompting police officers to believe that they are evading arrest. This can cause police officers to react improperly and may even cause them to use excessive force. This could be a violation of your civil rights. As such, you need an experienced Oakland DUI defense lawyer as soon as you are arrested.
